Castle weddings in Kent
Kent's castles are a big draw for couples. Leeds Castle near Maidstone offers weddings in the castle itself, in Battel Hall and in marquees in the grounds. Hever Castle near Edenbridge, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, hosts ceremonies and receptions, and nearby Chiddingstone Castle offers exclusive-use weddings with an orangery for ceremonies.
Historic buildings often have rules about what can be set up and where. A close-up magician needs nothing more than a table to lean on, if that, which keeps venue coordinators happy. And when the castle's the star of the photos, magic is a lovely way to keep guests entertained while the couple are outside with the photographer.
Something wilder on the coast
Near Hythe, Port Lympne Hotel and Reserve hosts weddings with safaris and animal encounters, a setting that's all about the unexpected. Magic fits that spirit nicely, especially during long receptions when guests are waiting to head out on the reserve.
Kent also has plenty of corporate venues used for team days, client hospitality and summer parties. For those, a magician can roam during lunch or drinks, then do a short interactive set to round off the day.
Oast houses, barns and garden weddings
Away from the castles, Kent's countryside is full of barns, farms and oast house venues, plenty of them in the Weald and around the North Downs. They tend to be relaxed, outdoorsy weddings with long receptions in the sunshine (fingers crossed).
A magician fits right in. They'll wander between groups on the lawn, keep the kids and the grandparents equally entertained, and slip inside with everyone when it's time to eat. No stage, no PA, no fuss.
If the reception is outside, have a plan B for rain. A covered terrace or a corner of the barn is all a close-up magician needs.
Planning around Kent's roads and estates
Kent's a big county. A venue near Tunbridge Wells and one near Canterbury are an hour or more apart, and summer traffic on the M20 and M2 can be heavy. We plan travel time generously so your magician arrives relaxed and early.
Many estates have long drives and several buildings. Let us know which entrance to use and where the reception will be, so your magician goes straight to the right place.
One more thing. Kent's close to London, so plenty of guests travel down by train on the day. If your venue's a taxi ride from the station, guests may arrive in waves. A magician on from the start keeps the early birds happy while the rest catch up.
