Questions about booking a magician
Questions
Frequently asked questions
How do I book a magician through you?
Fill in the quote form with your date, location and a few details about the event. We'll check which magicians are free and get back to you with options and a price. Once you're happy, we confirm the booking in writing.
How much does a magician cost?
In the UK, a professional magician typically costs £300 to £900 for a two to three hour booking, and children's parties usually less. The price depends on the date, the hours and travel. Our price guide has typical ranges for each type of event.
How far in advance should I book?
Weddings and December Christmas parties are best booked many months ahead, and summer Saturdays go quickly. For other dates a few weeks can be enough. If your event is soon, ask anyway, as last-minute availability does come up.
What does a close-up magician need on the day?
Very little. Somewhere to leave a bag, parking details and a contact name. They don't need a stage, power or sound.
What does a stage magician need?
A clear performing area where everyone can see, usually a microphone and sound system, and time to set up before guests arrive. Larger shows need more space and access for equipment, so share your venue details when you enquire.
How long should I book a magician for?
Two hours suits most weddings and parties. For bigger events, or if you want magic at both the drinks and the meal, two and a half to three hours is better. An after dinner show is usually 20 to 45 minutes.
When is the best time in the event for magic?
When guests are mingling or seated and can still hear each other. Drinks receptions and the gaps between courses are ideal. Once the disco's going, close-up magic is much harder to enjoy.
Do your magicians have public liability insurance?
Many venues ask for proof of public liability insurance, so tell us if yours does and we'll make sure the details are sorted before the day.
Do the magicians travel?
Yes, our magicians work across the UK. Travel may be included or added to the quote depending on distance, and we'll make that clear before you book.
What if I need to cancel or change the date?
Get in touch as soon as you can and we'll do our best to help. Your cancellation and change terms are confirmed in your booking confirmation, so you'll know where you stand from the start.
Is there a deposit?
Bookings are usually secured with a deposit and the balance paid closer to the event. The amounts and dates are set out in your booking confirmation.
Can you find a magician for a children's party?
Yes. Tell us the age group, the date and where the party is, and we'll look for a children's party magician who suits. It's worth asking any children's entertainer about DBS checks and insurance.
What age are magic shows best for?
Children's magic shows work best for roughly four to eight-year-olds. Older children tend to prefer close-up tricks, and toddlers usually do better with something short and musical.
Is a magician a good idea for a wedding?
It's one of the most popular uses for a magician. During the drinks reception, while you're busy with photos, a close-up magician keeps guests entertained and gets the two sides of the family chatting.
Can a magician perform at a corporate event or trade show?
Yes. Magic works at dinners, awards nights, conferences and client events, and on an exhibition stand it can draw a crowd. Some magicians can build your brand or product into a routine.
Can I book a mind reader?
Some of our magicians include mind reading in their performances. Mention it when you ask for a quote and we'll suggest magicians whose act fits.
Can I see the magician perform before booking?
Watching video of them performing for real guests is the best way to judge. We can point you to footage of the magicians we suggest.
